Bariquins: A Prize Winning Idea

In June 2015, Bariquins entered the 2015 Spark Stockport Business Ideas Competition.

The competition is organised to celebrate the best of the entrepreneurial talent in Stockport and throughout its surrounding areas. It is one of the biggest business idea competitions in the North West of England.

Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and run by Stockport Business and Innovation Centre (SBIC), Stockport Council and Oxford Innovation, the competition is sponsored by local businesses, the local branch of a national bank and by a European-wide Intellectual Property law firm. The 2015 line-up of contenders attracted a diverse range of business ideas and these were trimmed down to six finalists.

On the afternoon of June 23rd 2015, each finalist presented an overview of their business idea to the panel of eight judges who then asked questions about the business idea.

After much discussion and taking longer than usual due to the overall quality of the 2015 finalists, the judges made their decision. The winner was Chris Jarratt who picked up the trophy for his Bariquins idea, which the judges commended for addressing issues around a global health problem and for its growth potential. The judges were also ‘incredibly impressed with the business plan and route to market that they had planned and were beginning to operate in’.
